All My Best; From Me to You

All My Best; From Me To You is author Sid MacCallum's look back at his 30-year teaching career, but it is also a look back at his life. From his childhood years and attending a one-room schoolhouse, to university life and his fulfilling career as a Physical Education teacher at Pleasant Corners Public School, you can read about the many youth sports initiatives he was a part of and enjoy the inspirational stories, poems and reflections from a lifetime of learning. This book is an autobiography. It is about my life growing up, my education, getting married, teaching, and now – retirement. I was privileged to have taught at what I always referred to as “the greatest school in the world.” It was called Pleasant Corners Public School (PCPS) located on Highway 34 between the towns of Vankleek Hill and Hawkesbury. I began teaching at PCPS in 1976 and retired in 2006. My book comes out in June 2021 and I will be 70 years of age. I have chosen 2021 because this will be the 50th anniversary of quality education at Pleasant Corners Public School. Much of what I write about in this book are things that I have learned from others and these concepts I applied into what I call, “a philosophy towards healthy living.” This philosophy evolved over the years which began with the 5 lessons I learned from my mother, my 5 rules of discipline, the 5 wants for a healthy mind, and the 5 needs for a healthy body.

In 1982 I was one of 30 Canadian Physical Educators selected to attend a month-long conference in what was then called East Germany and in 2000,
I was recognized by The Upper Canada District Board of Education with “The Award of Excellence in Teaching.”

After retirement, I missed PCPS and my students, so I came up with a 50-minute presentation I offered to schools called “The Masterpiece, The Last Wish, and The Greatest Gift.” I devote much of this book to the theme given in this presentation which was on how to use our lives to create our own “Masterpiece.”

So – this is it, the story of an awfully lucky guy, not because of anything I’ve done, but because of what others have done for me. I hope you’ll enjoy the selected poems, the stories I pass on, and the message contained in this book.
